Prince of the City.
Info: About a decade ago (1996) there was a show called Kindred the Embraced which is based on White Wolf Game Studio's
Vampire: The Masquerade role-playing game. The verse is about a race of vampires that evolved along side humans, descendant of Caine,
a character based on the biblical Cain.
One of the main characters of the show which is played out in San Francisco is the Prince of the City called Julian Luna played by
the sadly departed Mark Frankel. It only played for 1 season (8 episode), they were suppose to pick up for a second season even
having the script ready for the first episode of that season when Mark was killed in a motor accident and since Julian was going to
be an integral part (the driving character) of the second season it was decided to not continue the show.
I am a fan of the show, mostly due to the fact that I love the character of Julian Luna.
Image: A little over a year a go I started to paint this image using as always a ref but I stopped as I didn? like how it was
going and the fact that back then I used a technique I call cheaty-painting which basically meant that I had the ref as back ground,
created a new layer in PS and then with the alt key to get the eye-drop tool and the brush blotted in the colors, in part even doing
it by pixel and then smudged the whole thing together (in another word - cheating). I stumbled upon
GFX, got all awed and decided to really learn how to paint digitally.
I scratched the layers except the line art I had done and began from scratch which you can see in the Work in Progress below to your right.
I'm not all that happy with the ear but I decided to give it a rest or I would just destroy the whole thing. I am still having a heck
of a time doing the surrounding of any given character, the - make it so that it looks like a whole and not just one object put on top or next of another. I realize I have a long way to go?ut anyway.
Enjoy.
